Do you know the difference between debits
and credits?
Do
you know the difference between debits and credits? Do you have a "hidden"
balance in your family checkbook for things like car insurance payments
and gift funds? Do you help with tax returns for family and friends, and/or
wonder why anyone would need an extension? Then you may be one of the happy,
detail-oriented people who wear their pocket protector proudly and would
be happy in the Finance Department.
The Finance Department is responsible for the accurate recording and
disbursement of funds. In addition, the members of the Finance Department
have an important communication responsibility as they make reports, develop
budgets in cooperation with the other members of the Area Council, and provide
support for the Groups working with their own budget and reporting responsibilities.
There are three Alliance staff people supporting the 19 Area Finance
Coordinators. We share forms, ideas, specific fee structures, IRS information
and funding ideas. We work to support and inform each other by various means--the
AFC Handbook, newsletters, face-to-face meetings, and the e-mail chat list.
The size of the department can vary tremendously. One person may have
sole responsibility. On the other hand, she may have a number of people
taking care of the Area Conference treasury, receiving Group Financial reports,
coordinating World Breastfeeding Week, or other jobs needed by the specific
Area where she works.
