Leader, Leader Applicant and Leader Accreditation Department (LAD) Representative

BEFORE APPROACHING A MOTHER

Leader

  • Orders Application Packet #485-22. Reviews materials in it. 
  • Reads LEADER’S HANDBOOK (LH), Chapter 5.
  • Discusses mother’s readiness with co-Leaders (and LAD Representative, if there is a question or concern).
   
PRE-APPLICATION TIME
  • Meets with mother to discuss concepts & Leader responsibilities. (Brochure #166-13 and LEADER’S HANDBOOK pp. 226-229).
  • Shares LEAVEN, ALL, information sheets, library books, and LEADER’S HANDBOOK.
  • Discusses workings of Group

Applicant

  • Is an LLL member ($40) and reads “Becoming a La Leche League Leader” (Brochure #166-13).
  • Discusses with Leader(s) concepts and Leader responsibilities in Brochure #166-13 and “Overview of Training Curriculum for Leader Accreditation.”
  • Has read most recent edition of THE WOMANLY ART and NEW BEGINNINGS.
 
WHEN THE MOTHER APPLIES
  • Gives mother her part of the Application Packet. 
  • Discusses LLLI Bylaws.
  • Sends Leader Recommendation for mother to CLA.
  • Asks co-Leaders to send Recommendation to CLA.
  • Sends application form plus application fee of $15 (payable to LLL of Area) to Coordinator of Leader Accreditation (CLA).
  • Orders LEADER’S HANDBOOK, THE BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK and Applicant Reading Set.

LAD Representative

  • Upon receipt of application form, fee and at least one Leader Recommendation, LAD Representative requests the Applicant’s personal history, enclosing various materials for the Applicant’s information.
  • Thanks Leader(s) for Leader Recommendation(s).
DURING THE APPLICATION

 

  • Covers Leader Applicant Orientation Checklist, LH pp. 150-2.
  • Shares “helping call” situations (no names).
  • Shares time management, materials, organizational techniques, ideas and tips. Helps Applicant fill out Meeting Report, Phone log, financial forms and other forms.
  • Discusses specific topics or material with Applicant as requested by LAD Representative and shares outcome with LAD Representative.
  • Helps Applicant complete BRG as needed.
  • Leader(s) and Applicant meet one or more times to discuss the Preview.  We recommend role-playing at least one situation. A phone call is also suggested.              
  • Writes to LAD Representative about the Preview and any other activities.

 

  • Does required reading and continues with other suggested books as family time permits.
  • Writes personal history in one or more parts and sends it to LAD Representative.     
  • Continues to regularly attend Group’s meetings.  Attends Evaluation Meetings, Workshops, Chapter Meetings, Area Conference/LLLI Conference if possible.
  • Corresponds with LAD Representative regularly, discussing topics, questions and/or concerns.
  • Completes the Breastfeeding Resource Guide (BRG).
  • Helps Leader fill out Group forms (see 13 under Leader).
  • Covers Checklist of Topics, LEADER’S HANDBOOK pp. 150-2, with Leader.
  • Meets with Leader(s) one or more times to discuss and complete the Preview.
  • Writes to LAD Representative about Preview and any other activities completed with a Leader.

 

  • Corresponds with Applicant, affirming, clarifying, sharing, or asking for more information.
  • May ask Leader to share pertinent materials or discuss specific topics and/or activities with Leader Applicant.
  • Sends Preview to Leader Applicant and Leader with any recommendations for discussing and completing the Preview.
  • Receives Leader and Applicant responses to the Preview and any other activities.
WHEN PREPARATION IS COMPLETE

 

  • All Leaders meet with the Applicant to plan sharing and doing.
  • Receives letter of appreciation and notice of accreditation of new Leader from LAD Representative.

 

  • Meets with all Leaders to plan sharing and doing.
  • Returns signed Statement of Commitment and check (for new Leader’s fee plus Leader’s dues, $40), payable to LLL, to LAD Representative.
  • Receives letter from LAD Representative that accreditation is complete; she is an LLL Leader!
  • Receives welcome letter from Area LLL.

 

  • LAD Representative sends Statement of Commitment to Applicant
  • Receives, then forwards Statement of Commitment and fee to AFC.
  • Sends congratulations to Applicant, now an accredited LLL Leader!
  • Notifies Area Secretary, ACL, DA and other Area Council Members.
