Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding
The U.S. Surgeon General has identified 20 evidence-based actions that are needed to support breastfeeding, including establishing worksite policies and programs, implementing maternity care practices in hospitals and birthing facilities, reducing marketing of infant formula, and ensuring access to services provided by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs).
The Surgeon General has chosen to focus on breastfeeding because of its importance in promoting women’s and children’s health, and its potential for significant health care cost savings through preventive action.
The Call to Action includes 20 recommended Actions to help support breastfeeding. Some of these are already being done by Leaders every day, and while others are not so directly within an LLL Leader’s scope, it is important for all of us to be aware of them. Attention La Leche League Groups
Have you filed your 990-N electronic postcard with the IRS this year? Starting with the 2007 fiscal year, all non-profit groups with a tax exemption are required to file a report annually, no matter how little or much money they take in. Need info? Need help?
